Abstract

This work aims at analyzing symbolic representations produced in a playroom, through pretend play, by a five-year-old male child with autism from the city of Vitória, State of Espirito Santo. The qualitative method is used from participant observation, video filming, photographs and field notes. The analyzed data shows the extent to which the play experience of the child with autism favors the internalization of this cultural element as it implies object (re) signification and representation of life situations, by utilizing multiple language possibilities and enhancing intra/interpersonal developmental process.
