Abstract
The objective of the study was to analyze the reasons that influence Physical Education teachers to remain and to abandon teaching at the beginning of their careers. In the research were interviewed 16 teachers who had up to four years of teaching. Content analysis was used to systematize interviews. The results showed that the desire to leave the career was linked to financial devaluation, disagreement with the school system, stress, lack of discipline of the students and fear of suffering physical aggression. On the other hand, the desire to remain in teaching was linked to the financial need, security of employment as a public servant, identification with profession, satisfaction in working with children and assisting in the process of training students.
