Productive restructuring and collective bargaining during the 90's

The objective of the article is to analyze the impact of productive and financial restructuring regarding the bargaining power of three trade unions (chemical, metallurgical and banking workers) in the area of Campinas (São Paulo). It focuses mainly on their process of collective bargaining during the 90's. The authors intend to discuss: (a) how the introduction and diffusion of technological and organizational innovations took place in metal and chemical manufacturing and in the banking system and their consequences for the division and the content of labor inside companies; (b) how this process alters the composition of the work force in these sectors and the structure of the employment in supply chains and inside the banking system; (c) the effects of these changes on the union activity and, especially, on the process of collective bargaining, examined through the analysis of the evolution of agreements covering these groups of workers.
