A theory for Brazilian social thought: essay, space, and figuration in the interpretations of Brazil

Abstract:

This article intents to analyze Brazilian essayism in the 1920s – 1930s, proposing the interrelationship between Brazilian social thought and social/sociological theory. From the category of modern chronotope, I elaborate the theoretical junction between imaginative cartography and figuration as interpretative axes of Brazilian social thought. I conclude by highlighting the characteristics of essayism as a peripheral intellectual experience that pointed out non-modular itineraries of modernity

Keywords:
