proposed a model to measure economic welfare using data on consumption, leisure and life expectancy in order to meet the well known deficiencies in GDP per capita. This method was replicated for the Brazilian states and the results show that almost all regions have a lower welfare than that represented by per capita income in relation to São Paulo state, mainly due to the low life expectancy. Moreover, the welfare indicator is highly correlated with GDP per capita and the results are robust regarding changes in individual consumption, income measure and leisure.
