ANALYSIS OF STRESS APPLIED IN A FORAGE HARVESTER KNIFE

ABSTRACT

The analysis of stress applied in the knife of the JF 90 Z 10-forage harvester was evaluated in this study. A model to analyze the knife stress was developed using ANSYS 5.3, a finite element type software. Model verification was done by comparing ANSYS results to analitical results for a simpler problem. A close agreement was found between the developed ANSYS model and the analytical solution. To simulate the application of the forces applied in the knife, a rotor rotation of 1,450rpm and a rotor cutting power of 29,000W were considered. The maximum equivalent stress found was 144.6MPa and its position was in the knife cut edge.
