CONCRETE PRE-CAST ELEMENTS FOR USE IN SQUARE MODULAR SILOS FOR GRAIN STORAGE

ABSTRACT

This research provides technical information for designing multicell reinforced concrete prefabricated silos in square form and capacity for 60 tons of corn (15 per cell), for farmers with small and medium farms. Theoretical and experimental analyses with an element model were conducted to evaluate the structural behavior of separated elements and coupled elements, in full scale, which form the square walls of the modular silo. From the experimental analysis it was concluded that the two-coupled element model presented a satisfactory behavior with the toughest spot. The stress values calculated with the Ravenet method (1992) and with the biarticulable beam theory were lower than the values obtained from the experiment. The measured displacement exhibited a similar behavior, but somewhat better than the values calculated by applying the maximum inflection and the half shaft inflection method.
