Methodology for identification and characterization of errors in yield maps

For many researchers, yield mapping is the start of Precision Farming. Yield monitors measure the yield and collect data in a high frequency allowing the collection of erroneous data that may interfere in the decision-making based on yield maps. The objective of this work was to develop a methodology to identify and characterize errors in yield maps and apply the methodology to a set of data obtained from six different commercial yield monitors. With the analyzed data, errors were found and characterized as positioning errors, null or extremely high yield points with no measurements of grain moisture, swath width errors due to wrong interpretation of the effective cutting width by the operator, time errors and disagreeable data. All these errors were characterized and furnished the basis for the formulation of a routine for filtering the new yield data.
