MANAGEMENT OF IRRIGATION AND NITROGEN FERTILIZATION IN HERBACEOUS COTTON CROP

ABSTRACT

A study was carried out in covered area during the period of May to October, 1996. The experiment was located at CCA/UFPB, in the municipality of Areia. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of levels of available water contents in the soil (AW), 75, 50 and 25% and doses of nitrogen, 0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 kg ha-1 on some characteristics of herbaceous cotton, cv. CNPA-7H. A completely randomized block was utilized in a 5 x 3 factorial arrangement, with 3 replications. The results showed significant linear effects (p ? 0.01) of N for leaf area, cotton yield, and evapotranspiration and quadratic effect for dry matter. The 25% level of AW showed significant decrease (p ? 0.01) for stem diameter, plant height, leaf area, evapotranspiration and dry matter. The results show that there was no significant interaction (p > 0.05) between the N x AW treatments, on the variables analyzed.
