ORGANIZATION OF MATHEMATICS TEACHING IN THE LIGHT OF DEVELOPMENTAL TEACHING THEORY

ABSTRACT

This study aims at investigating the origin and development process of characteristic elements of Developmental teaching by Davýdov during the introduction of multiplication and division concepts with students of a Pedagogy faculty through a developmental didactic experiment. To apprehend the researched reality, the 15 weekly encounters were followed, each lasting 3 hours, with 23 students. Three moments of analysis were considered: 1) starting point; 2) learning process; and 3) arrival point. Results were exposed through training episodes that point out some evidence of overcoming elements of organization of empirical teaching by the theoretical one in the students’ learning process, such as: revealing and modeling of relationship core of concepts and conceptual systems from the relations among greatness in the interconnection of arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric relations.
