The education of ethnic-racial relations in early childhood education institutions in Minas Gerais

ABSTRACT

The aim of this article is to present a diagnosis of the implementation of anti-racist education in early childhood education institutions in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The method is anchored in studies on childhood and ethnic-racial relations, articulated with meta-research derived from 24 theses and dissertations written between 2012 and 2022. Of the 18 universities that made up the sample, only seven conducted research on Early Childhood Education and ethnic-racial relations. The first research was conducted in 2012, and since then the topic has been in a state of "resistance" in educational research in the state. The results show that although the challenges are greater than the progress in implementing ethnic-racial relations education in early childhood education, anti-racist practices have been identified through children's literature, games and play, visits, beauty salons, and religious diversity.
