This article will have fulfilled its purpose if it convinces the reader of the existence of a new rhetoric in the official discourse on teaching and that this new discourse possesses various explanations and can have implications for the pedagogical practices to which it is destined. The analysis presented here of the curricula of Portuguese Language and of the National Curricular Parameters for Portuguese Language _ PCN, leads us to believe that a set of declared strategies give this discourse a double generic appearance: of dissemination and of scientific discourse. These strategies can be seen, preferably, in the footnotes and bibliographic references.
