ABSTRACT
The main objective of this research was to analyze school management from the point of view of the professional identity of school managers, based on the idea that the success of their practices depends, to a large extent, on how their professional identity is configured. From a biographical-narrative approach, the voices of 12 principals of public educational centers selected through intentional rationalization tell how they live and forge their identity in the development of their functions. Three interviews were conducted with each participant, in which information was collected on the configuration of professional identity, taking into account their previous career and professional identity and the exercise of school leadership and professional identity. The results refer to these dimensions of analysis: the internal perspective of professional identity and double identity; identity for others and the construction of identity in the daily exercise of leadership.
