Exit of the teaching career in basic education: a systematic review

ABSTRACT

The teaching career is an object of study in different areas of knowledge. However, the departure from the teaching career has been little explored in the Brazilian context. The objective of this study was to analyze the scientific production on leaving the teaching career in Basic Education. A systematic review was used. The search took place in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS) databases, from 2000 to 2020. A classification of the types of exit that may precede the final one can be observed. The reasons that can lead a teacher to exit the teaching career are identified, with emphasis on low remuneration and lack of infrastructure. The results suggest that leaving the teaching career is a slow process that can have different phases and that occurs for reasons generally associated with the school system itself.
