Accessibility proposals for the inclusion of people with disabilities in higher education

To research and describe the actions contained in the proposals offered by the "Project Include / MEC-Accessibility in Higher Education" in the years 2005-2008. This is a descriptive documentary study. It includes the following stages of literature review, survey of accessibility proposals submitted by Federal Institutions of Higher Education (IFES), contact with the coordinators of the programs and systematic search for and access to full projects, reading the projects in full, data organization in categories previously established from the contextual factors of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health-ICF. We identified 115 projects involving 58 universities, but only 11 projects were fully accessed, constituting the study sample. The initiatives that fell in Part 2 of the ICF - Contextual Personal Factors/environment, and described actions aimed at acquiring and developing products included in the component "Products and Technologies", 16 actions in the component "Attitude" aimed to promote awareness of the academic/non-academic communities, and 35 actions focused on "Services, Systems and Policies", aiming at bettering the selection process / exams, hiring interpreters, staff and teacher training, liaison with other community services. The proposed actions show that the inclusion of people with disability in Institutions of Higher Education relates to everything involving the subject in his or her daily life and should be directed towards attitudes towards people with disabilities, to inclusion policies and acquisition of products and assistive technology.
