Images from α-decays of a radioactive 241-Americium source, obtained with a low cost cloud chamber, are used as motivation for the development of concepts related to passage of charged particles through matter and in the discussion of a simple model for nuclear structure. The 241Am spectrum is analyzed using images obtained with the experiment.
