The "magnetic levitation" of a conducting ring ("Thomson’s ring" or "jumping ring" experiment) is a wellknown demonstration, easier to perform than to explain. In this paper we propose a qualitative way to explain it, to clarify some obscure aspects of explanations found in literature.
