In this paper we describe an interdisciplinary activity realized in a public school of Criciúma, SC, whose main objective was to become students and parents aware of the global warming, besides involving the local community in actions for its reduction. In order to reach this goal, we engage the High School community in the construction of a solar home heater with detachable materials. The teachers used the project to explore the scientific concepts involved in the buildup.
