Simulations of experiments as a virtual demonstration tool in physics lectures

The possibilities of using computers as a pedagogical tool have been discussed for some time. Among these possibilities, simulation of physics experiments has been the most explored one. Simulation of physics experiments has allowed the study of conditions that would be difficult to be implemented in practice or, sometimes, not possible to be obtained at all. The use of simulation programs allows a better understanding of some physical phenomena since it makes possible to include graphical elements and animations in the same environment. This, allied to the interest of students in micro-computers, could make the learning process more efficient and enjoyable. In this work we present some simulations, performed in microcomputers, for teaching physics to freshmen engineering students at Faculdade de Engenharia Industrial (FEI). These simulations have been developed using a commercial software and are employed in lectures as a demonstration tool.
