Natural frequencies of a string musical instrument from its geometric and physical parameters

The manufacturers of stings usually supply the scale length, diameter, tension and material of a musical instrumentstring. With these data the fundamental harmonic frequency is easily calculated. The results are accurate for the first three guitar strings, but they are not for the larger diameter ones, in which the mass is increased by an additional winding brass or nickel wire. The calculation is then refined to take into account this factor. A model designed for the physics laboratory is proposed. The results of theorization prove to be accurate, both for strings with additional winding wire as for the proposed didacticmodel.
