The topic of wave-particle duality in the professional training of medical radiology based on the simulation of Mach-Zender Interferometry

This paper presents the application of a proposal whose aim is to introduce topics of modern physics to students of a technical course in the field of health sciences and the evaluation of a virtual workbench-type software that simulates the Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The sociointeractionist theory of Vygotsky and the curricular emphasis Science-Technology- Society were taken as theoretical framework. The introduction of this proposed innovative approach to topics such as wave-particle duality and phenomena regarding the interaction of radiation with matter to a class of 32 students from technical course in Medical Radiology was executed during the course of a Professional Master's Degree in Physics Teaching at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). From the observations and findings in the classroom, one may say that this software has all the capabilities to render it a very useful tool in teaching and learning fundamentals of quantum physics, as well as lead students to construct knowledge and establish correlations with other topics explored during the course.
