Torricelli's equation and the study of uniformly variable rectilinear motion (UVRM)

Firstly, this work undertakes a task of retrieving the historical role of Evangelista Torricelli in order to show his importance for the study of the uniformly variable rectilinear motion; it also analyzes the way of how the equation ν2 = ν²0 + 2aΔs is shown to high school pupils in the study of this motion through course books and the behavior of the teachers towards it. Lastly, it shows how the history of physics may contribute to give a meaningful sense to the study of certain scientific concepts.
