A thesis in the history of astronomy in ancient Greece is that the heliocentric hypothesis is "natural" within the astronomical model of the excentric circle; this model is equivalent to the model of epicicles and deferents used in the influential The Almagest. We put together arguments that indicate that this thesis is plausible.
