Here is a review of the book “History of Physics in Recife”, recently published by Companhia Editora de Pernambuco. Throughout its seven chapters, are presented the historical antecedents of science in Pernambuco; Luiz Freire’s role in the development of physics in Pernambuco; the beginnings of the creation of DF-UFPE and its evolution since its creation in 1971.
