Abstract:
Brazilian legislation provides for the use of unclaimed cadavers for both teaching activities and scientific research in medical schools. However, schools experience difficulties in implementing the existing norms. The existing conflict in Federal standards was settled in the state of São Paulo through a provision by the state Courts, while the conflicting standards have persisted in the rest of the country. In addition, use of cadavers for teaching is legally restricted only to medical schools, whereas other courses require knowledge of human anatomy. In order to solve this problem, a bill of law is currently being reviewed by the National Congress which aims to extend the use of unclaimed cadavers to other courses debate in the scientific and academic community and foster proper teaching of human anatomy.
