Biochemistry as Basic Discpline in Medical Education: Schemes and Problems Solutions

Abstract:

In the last 50 years the curtricula of the courses of Medicine remained basically unchanged. The maintenance of this curricular structure as well as of the teaching method representes only a manner of reaching the objectives of the professional physician’s education and training2. From a simplistic view, the students motivated by a natural anxiety are involved in na enviroment where the discipline of the basic cicle, far away from the reality of medical practice, turn into a moratorim for the students’ development1. In this contexto, the basic disciplines are detached from those of the specialization cycle in a way capable of intefering with the motivations not only of the new students but also of the professor of the basic cycle. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the degree of importance given by students to a discipline of the basic cycle of the course of Medicine and the level of learning and undestanding, knowing that this discipline is offered soon after the first semestre of Biochemestry in the course of Medicine at the “Fundação Universidade Regional de Blumenau” (FURB).
