Summary:
Abridged abstracts of selected papers on “Characteristics of Students” presented at a recently held international meeting on Medical Education are presented. A number of topic were covered, including gender, life philosophy, “traditionalism”, analytic and communication skills, screening of medical students with negative personal characteristics and learning styles. The importance of non-cognitive attributes in different stages of Medical Education is stressed. Research on new aspects of well know characteristics, disclosure of new abilities and studies on methods for the investigation of personal characteristics of medical students are strongly needed. Production and incorporation of new knowledge on personal characteristics of students will increase the approprietedness and effectiveness of Medical Education.
