Expectations about the teaching career: professional choice and integration of students of Pedagogy

Abstract:

Studies on professional integration processes have increased in the last years of the 21st century, favoring the appearance of an important theoretical and investigating body around this construct. Universities, researchers, educators and professional counselors have accumulated experiences and a vast production on the subject outlined by concerns and the search for alternatives for the treatment of social and professional integration. This article analyses the expectations of academicians of a Pedagogy degree, from a community college in the South of the country, regarding their professional choices and integration into the labor market. It presents a qualitative research which uses as instrument for the data collection a semi-structured questionnaire, with open and closed questions, applied to a representative group of trainees from the Pedagogy course. The data handling was developed by means of the analysis of content. The survey results showed the recognition of the professional academic choice, identifying their positive expectations regarding the insertion into the labor market in their area. Some information revealed negative points regarding the career low social recognition and low payment. In this sense, the analysis considers a networking experienced by students during this course.
