To furnish Pharmacognostical datas in order to improve characterization of plants, we executed chromatographic study of the leaves of "espinheira santa" ("Maytenus ilicifolia Mart."), which is available commercially in the local markets. Isolation and characterization of two groups of compounds (flavonol glycosides and proanthocyanidins) could be a reference point for autenticity of the mentioned drug.
