Profile of the elders assisted by units of family health strategy who had acute myocardial infarction

ABSTRACT

Population aging is a reality and as a result, specific diseases emerge, the chronic diseases, especially cardiovascular disease and, among these, the Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI). The research evaluates the profile of elderly people who had suffered AMI, assisted by eight units of the Family Health Strategy. It is a quantitative, analytical, descriptive, developed in a town in northwestern region of Rio Grande do Sul state, with 40 seniors. Data collection included the following variables: age, race, marital status, religion, children, education, occupation, residence, time of occurrence of AMI, previous myocardial infarction, revascularization, thrombolytic therapy, occurrence of AMI in relatives and satisfaction with health. Most have 60 to 80 years incomplete, are married, Catholic, retired, has children, attended school from 2 to 8 years incomplete. For 62.5% of them, AMI occurred more than four years ago, 22.5% had previous AMI, with higher incidence in relatives of 40 to 60 years old, 75% underwent revascularization, 45% had thrombolytic therapy, 65%, angioplasty. The majority are satisfied with their health.
