Aging of the Brazilian population: a content analysis of REBEP’s issues

Abstract

This article aimsis to analyze in which extent and what Brazilian demographers have produced and reflected on populational aging. For this purpose, some articles of REBEP (Revista Brasileira de Estudos d 30 (1993) work on the way women have been analyzed by articles published by Demography. Our focus is populational aging as a demographic process, emphasizing the aspects of this process in the social life. We used articles published on this theme by REBEP between 1984 and 2003. The methodology was the Content Analysis. Despite the subjectivity of the method, it is possible to state that REBEP has published few articles whose main theme is the populational aging and its consequences. For twenty years (1984-2003) only eight works, among articles, summaries and notes about research over ageing had been published.
