Dual task in Parkinson's disease: a systematic review of randomized clinical trials

The dual or concurrent task involves performing a primary task, which is the main focus of attention, and a secondary task, performed at the same time. Parkinson's disease show deterioration in gait performance when dual tasks are required. Therefore, this research aimed to perform a systematic review of randomized clinical trials on the effect of dual task intervention on gait in Parkinson's disease. A search for randomized clinical trials was carried out in MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO, Cochrane and PEDro. Two reviewers extracted data independently and methodological quality was assessed using the PEDro scale. Two articles were selected, covering 175 participants. It was been shown that training with external cues and music, which are ways to train the dual task during walking, improved gait performance. However, many studies of the randomized clinical trials type are still required, so as to see, especially, the effects of dual task interventions on gait in patients with Parkinson's disease.
