Profile of elderly nursing homes in the city of Recife, PE, Brazil

Abstract

The fast aging of the Brazilian population, observed in the last decades, requires a new net of social assistance and health services directed to elderly people. The study objective was to characterize the Institutions of Long Permanence, registered in Recife city, in quantitative terms, according to the space distribution of the administrative politics region, according to the nature, available condition of monthly contribution by the user, public target and vacancy availability. The interest information included primary and secondary data registered in half-structuralized questionnaire. Two of the 27 located institutions refused to participate in the study.

Results

In terms of the spatial distribution (02) was located at RPA1, (04) at RPA2, (09) at RPA3, (12) private, (08) was humanitarian, (02) was mixed and (01) without any profitable objective; in relation to the monthly contribution, (04) was absolutely free, in (09) it was collected the maximum of one minimum wage (SM), in (08) from 1 through 2 SM, in (04) from 2 through 3 SM; about the target public, (01) was directed exclusively to male attendance, (08) received only women and (16) was mixed, in relation to vacancy availability 15 institutions holds up to 30 elderly, 07 holds up to 60 elderly, 02 up to 90 elderly.

Conclusion

in face of the reduced institution number, as well as, the number of vacancy availability, we can suggest the reorganization of the municipal shelter institution network.
