Retirement planning program: a study with older workers in Resende city (RJ)

ABSTRACT

This paper presents relevant aspects in retirement planning perceived by 121 non-managerial workers aged 45 years and over who work in large organisations in Resende, State of Rio de Janeiro. The research also tested the validity of the KFRP Scale - Key Factors for Retirement Planning for non-managers. The scale included 15 items showed a satisfactory internal consistency index (α = 0,84). The factor analysis extracted four factors named personal and social well being (α = 0,76), risk or survival factors (α = 0,73); new career beginning (α = 0,73), and family relationships (α = 0,72). Most of these workers showed interest in doing some kind of work after retirement (92%). The results suggest some action points for the Human Resources Department to ensure older employees who want to go on working are kept up to date with knowledge and technology, as well as Retirement Education Programs for those who do want to retire.
