This article analyzes the historiographical debate about the issue of "origins" in the brazilian popular music. So, we try to highlight the agumentative basis and the most important asserts of the two main historiographic currents of this controversy: a) the current that affirms the paradigm of origins, as a locus, verifiable in terms of time and space, to be determined by the historic research; b) the current, most active in the academic institutions, whose attempts to establish a critical scope about the issue of origins itself and focusing the social and ideological aspects of the discourses that affirms an "outset" of history, by its deconstruction.
