A estratégia do confronto: a frente de mobilização popular

For a long time, the academic research has shown the participation of conservative groups and right-wingers in the military putsch in 1964. However, little research has been done about the role played by left-wing supporters in this process. The consolidated idea states that only right-wingers supported the political radicalism, which resulted in the civil and military coup, while the left-wingers fought for political reforms and democracy. As so, along the dictatorship, many versions emerged to explain the putsch's reasons, but none of them considered the left-wingers participation in the political process of polarization. The article focuses on the political strategies from left-wing groups, which took part in João Goulart's government.
