This article do not pretend to form a complete survey or to definy a compact portion of the history of women's body. The fact that so many problems are addressed only indicates the extends of the field to be explored and marks the several approches on the ongoing investigations. I shall not enter directly into these controversies, but I simply want to sketch the history of whow female bodies where represented in predominantly medical literature during the XVIIIth century.
