Abstract:
This study aims at examining the status of the ‘Portuguese Language Teaching Methodology’ as a curricular component of Portuguese teacher training. We will initially provide a panoramic reconstruction of the historical course of evolution of teacher training and its interface with the emergence of the pedagogies related to different disciplines. Secondly, supported by theoretical contributions from the fields of history, pedagogy of school disciplines and applied linguistics, amongst others, we will describe and review a corpus of three textbooks published in Brazil between 1949 and 1958, seeking to point out the ways the specificity of ‘Portuguese language teaching methodology’ is built relatively to other disciplines linked to teacher training.
