Abstract: The objective of this article was to present the book Alfabetização... uma aventura para a criança, written in 1981, and to analyze how the state made it available to the literacy teachers of public schools in the State of Santa Catarina at that time. It is a historical research carried out through documentary analysis and interviews, whose analyses were based on a dialectical historical materialist perspective. The results indicate that the book was written to serve as a manual for literacy teachers and, with a view to its use, the State conducted ‘training’ courses, using the methodology of multipliers, so that they would learn the method expressed in it and put it into practice; the whole process was organized by the author of the book.
