School institutions in Marajó: trajectory, structure, and teaching at Internato Evangélico Amazônico in Breves, Pará (1949-1970)

Abstract

The paper addresses the trajectory, the school spaces, and the pedagogical proposal of Internato Evangélico Amazônico (Amazonian Evangelical boarding school), founded in 1949 in the town of Breves, archipelago of Marajó, state of Pará, Brazil. It seeks to know historical and memorial aspects of the referred Internship, especially its educational proposal. The question is: how were the spaces, the organizational structure, the didactic material and the pedagogical proposal of the IEA? Based on documentary and oral data analyzed in the light of the theoretical basis on school institutions, the research identified that the IEA had several spaces and a structured teaching based on the division of gender and a didactic based on religious, moral and civic values articulated to a hygienist discourse.
