Abstract:
This paper focused on teacher training during the First Congress of Pedagogical Improvement (1935), held in Espírito Santo. From the reading of the Annals and journalistic materials related to the event, it analyzes the ‘new’ guidelines for the in-service teacher training and the ways in which the participants interacted with the guidelines for the improvement of teaching in Espírito Santo. We concluded that the organization of the congress around model classes, taught by invited teachers, sought to avoid controversies and theories considered as ‘useless’, promoting pedagogical modeling. In this context, the announced ‘renewing’ perspective of teaching was reduced to the ‘efficient’ reproduction of practical models, which could not even be considered a novelty.
