Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the mobilization of hygienic tools in the training project of the Escola Superior de Agricultura e Veterinária de Viçosa, during its first years of operation (1927-1935). To do this, we investigated institutional documents - statutes, reports, questionnaires, etc. - using Cultural History references, by Certeau (2015) and Chartier (1988). It identified that the administration adopted tools to clean up hookworm disses and improve the students’ weight, with emphasis on bodily practices. In 1934, Dr. Raymundo Faria was hired. He reinforced the hygienic aims of practices and radicalized the treatment against hookworms. It is concluded that the tools mobilized on the ESAV aimed to medicalize the students’ bodies.
