Open-access The ‘Laerte’s group’ and the writing of History of Education

Abstract:

The article deals with an experience of research and writing in History and Philosophy of education, which took place in the 1960s and 1970s at the Universidade de São Paulo and Institutos Isolados de Ensino Superior under the guidance of Laerte Ramos de Carvalho. This experience, which created a discernible tradition in the field of historiographical studies of Brazilian education, defined its themes in the light of educational and political problems of its time, as well as of philosophical conceptions, theories of history, epistemological and disciplinary partitions that formed the model of higher education of that time. By the way it has been organized to propose, produce and disseminate the writing of history, this generation marked this field in formation with particular characteristics, which include the preference for certain types of sources, ways to periodize and narrate historical events. The proposed historiographical analysis combines textual and contextual understanding of this tradition, considering the institutional and disciplinary conditions, as well as the social, intellectual and political ambience in which these narratives were produced.
