Images and their interpretations in the Spanish textbooks: A methodological proposal

Abstract: Historians of education are paying more and more attention within educational institutions. Well, one of the most important historical sources that we have to deal with this task is that constituted by all the books used in educational institutions, a textual and iconic school device. To this interest aroused among the community of historians joins a tendency that includes in the historiographical works the images as a source of study. It is in this framework that this work is inserted, which aims to propose an analysis methodology that takes into account the ways of interrelation between expression and forms of representation and content in textbooks published in Spain since the mid-twentieth century and Early 21st century to convey content, values, ideologies and beliefs.
