The present paper aims at discussing results of pre-service projects developed in English Methodology classes with undergraduate students of two public universities in Brazil. Based on the conception that English Methodology classes should prepare the teacher-researcher engaged in a continuous critical reflection about his/her own action, the two projects represent attempts to create spaces for the transposition of theoretical and methodological conceptions studied throughout the course to the real high school classroom. This transposition is carried out through the development of didactic sequences whose goal is to construct the reading process of English as a Foreign Language with high school students. The sequences are developed by the undergraduate students using as framework prescriptive texts (OCEM, PCN) as well as theories concerning genres and teaching. After contextualizing both projects, the article focuses on the analysis of specific activities that integrate two didactic sequences developed to work the reading comprehension of the genres institutional advertisement and news.
