Personal and non-transferable: the relevance of learning styles in foreign language classes

This article presents an overview of the learning style construct (CURRY, 1987, inter alios) in order to show how it can facilitate the learning process. Then, it shows the results of a research involving the use of open-ended interviews (FLICK, 2004) and two of the most widespread taxonomies (GRASHA, 1996; REID, 1987) in order to know how 25 foreign language learners, from varied contexts, deal with this very important construct. The case study methodology helped me to put in evidence the role of this input. The article ends highlighting some benefits of the studies in this area and offers suggestions for future research.
