The Mario of Paulicéia, Belazarte and Macunaíma: Considerations About the "Soft and Indecisive Monster that Is Brazil"

ABSTRACT

With Macunaíma, published in 1928, the boundaries between popular and cult blurred, giving way to a mixture that would be the very soul of the Brazilian people and whose format had already begun to be sketched out in the Contos de Belazarte that only came to light in 1934. The purpose of this text is to make considerations about some intentions of the gigantic cultural intervention of the modernist Mário and his project of Brazilianism, especially in Paulicéia Desvairada, Macunaíma and Contos de Belazarte.
