EDITORS' NOTE
"Which are the principles that should guide the mental health policies in low- and middle-income countries?"
The debate regarding mental health care models is extremely important for low-and middle-income countries. The Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria (RBP), recognizing its role as a publication that promotes scientific knowledge and debate, has decided, during the year 2010, to invite local and global authors to present their points of view regarding the following question: "Which principles should guide mental health policies in low-and middle-income countries?" This initiative aims to provide evidence-based subsidies for the reflection and implementation of policies in these countries, which are lacking not only resources, but also policies coherent to the scarcity of resources.
