Obesity and psychiatric disorders share an overwhelming moral prejudice, seen not only between lay people but also between health professionals. When the association of these groups of disorders is taken into account, a relative lack of studies designed to characterize that association or to address at specific treatment strategies is observed. In this paper, the interrelationship between these aspects and bariatric surgical procedures as well as a brief description of their indications will be addressed according to world literature and the authors personal experience.
