The article analyses the evolution of the Latin America status in the international system in the early 21th Century. After a panoramic view considering the world order setting after the cold war and the impact that the changes on the American foreign politics had on multilateralism and on unilateralism, it analyses the effects on the international insertion of Latin America. The article also endeavors to name and evaluate the changes introduced in the international politics by the United States after the September, 11th.
